Our People - David Miller

David was first admitted as a solicitor in England in 1974. Shortly thereafter, he moved to Brisbane and was admitted as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1978. For approximately 10 years, he specialised in insurance and commercial litigation with the Brisbane law firm, Feez Ruthning. That firm developed an interest in industrial and employment law in about 1989 and David was the Partner responsible for establishing a practice in that area. The firm later merged with Allen Allen & Hemsley and David became a Partner in 1996.

In 1999, David moved to the national law firm Deacons to take up a position as head of their employment law division in Brisbane.

David moved to the Australian Industry Group in November 2006 as a senior industrial adviser in Brisbane and in addition to working in that capacity, is now the Legal Practitioner Director for Ai Group Legal in Queensland.

David’s experience in the area of industrial law, employment and workplace relations is extensive, going back almost 20 years. In that time, he has had experience across the whole range of work related issues including WorkCover and workplace health and safety matters.

David has appeared regularly in the Federal Court, the State Courts of Queensland as well as the Federal and State EEO tribunals, the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

David was a founding member of the Industrial Law Committee of the Queensland Law Society and for a time lectured in employment contracts to the Legal Practice Course at the Queensland University of Technology.
